Defining the WWW

    An Internet Browser acts as the window onto the Internet. It is the program that provides the browsing controls.
  • Address/Location:
    Called a URL which stands for Universal Resource Locator. This line tells you where you are. Its format is usually in the following manner: http://www.wherever.com The other common . extensions are, .org, .edu, .mil, .gov . There are several new ones that will be available in the near future.

  • Back Button:
    This literally takes you back to the last few pages that were accessed.

  • Go To:
    This is a pull down menu choice that does the same thing as the back button; the difference is that you see a list and can choose any of the URL's on it.

  • Bookmarks:
    Another pull down menu that allows you to add the address of the current page to a list which can be accessed at a later time in order to return to the page.

  • Links:
    These are the highlighted and often underscored words that are found on most web pages. They can also be buttons or image maps.
